The global tourism industry ended last year at 935 million tourists, 6.7% more than in 2009, which not only manages to offset the 4% drop suffered a year ago, but to exceed by 2.5% the maximum level before the crisis, said yesterday the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
This represents more than 58 million tourists in 2009 and 22 million more than in 2008, which recorded 913 million trips, the highest level reached so far.
Although the vast majority of destinations around the world in 2010 showed positive figures, which managed to offset recent losses or approach this goal, the recovery came at two different speeds, lower in advanced economies (5%) and more rapid emerging (8%), said today the secretary General of UNWTO Taleb Rifai.
Such recovery is a reflection of the global economic situation and rule 2011 and the foreseeable future, Rifai said, adding that “now the challenge will be to consolidate this growth in coming years amid an uncertain global economic environment.”
-Also warned of concern to the WTO, the high rates of unemployment, since expectations are not enough to cover what was lost during the crisis.

The National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (Canatur) announces the completion of the eighteenth edition of Peru Travel Mart (PTM 2011) to be held in Lima from 15 to 18 May. This time, the focus will be the centenary of the discovery of Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary for the world.
The Embassy of Peru in Bolivia reported that since 1987, Peru Travel Mart is the largest annual event to promote tourism in Peru, created to be the meeting point of Peruvian tourism promoters with their peers in the world, and from which to display potential buyers, new tourism products in an interesting business opportunity.

The boutique hotel Casa Fusion, which just opened its doors in Sopocachi, is one of the few of its kind in Bolivia. These establishments are usually small, familiar, comfortable, often luxurious, and offer personalized attention to guests.
The hotel is in a traditional house in Calle Miguel de Cervantes, where Ernesto Thain spent his childhood and part of his adult life. Neither he nor his wife, Ximena Ruiz, from the category of the hotel, but 12 years ago owned the Coconut cake, which is also part of the house, and for a time had a small restaurant.
